![]() ![]() TLDR I loved AWL and secretly hope that a sequel with a similar art style and atmosphere is made to greatly improve what was left out of the original. Even that felt pointless after a couple of years because there was nothing to buy with the money that you made. The "festivals" were nearly non-existant, and there was very little to do except farm crops and take care of your animals. After the first year, there are rarely any social events. The game will now feature full seasons that last 30 days, festivals, and the top-down view that was present in the originals. There were many things that the game lacked as well. The gameplay of Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is a throwback to the concept of the first Harvest Moon video game and does not include many of the newer features that were added in later games. If you left your farm, there wasn't any music except for the quiet sounds of cicadas, or the bubbling water in the river, or overhearing Lumina practicing piano from Romana's Manor. I enjoyed the art style and the "natural" noises made when walking around town. I got it for Christmas in 5th grade and it is still my favorite Harvest Moon. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and falling in love. I think I might feel differently if I went back and played it now, though.Ī Wonderful Life was my first Harvest Moon title. I feel like I might have a different opinion if I went back and played it now, but at the time, HM64 was my favorite, and AWL was just too different. ![]() I was maybe 15 when I started it, and I just didn't have fun with it. ![]() It didn't help that my game crashed any time I tried to go see Tartan for hybrid crops, either. Etc.Īlso, any time I tried to take my kid somewhere to try to get him interested in stuff, he just ran away. Want cows? They'll take a full year to grow up, have to be impregnated, and will take another year before you can just milk them normally. Want to get more chickens? Better get a rooster! He'll eat your food and only fertilize some of the eggs. Everything felt so much more tedious because of the realism. Not to knock anyone who liked it (because it was and is pretty popular), but I just had trouble getting into it. I'm so glad I'm not alone! I think you're the only other person I've ever seen who didn't care for AWL. ![]()
